Visitors have been getting a real feel for times gone by as the museum showcases its collection of some of the most interesting time keeping equipment in history.

The museum has also been welcoming parties of school children who have been taking the time to visit the exhibition and try making clocks of their own.

There are some fantastic gems in this latest exhibition, Ingenious Timekeepers, which gives visitors the chance to take a peek at some fine examples of long case clocks, turret clocks, watches, chronometers and other artefacts.

There are a huge range of watches on display from 1580 right up to 1970, many of them made in and around the North West.

Visitors are also invited to clock in to the exhibition using a genuine clocking in clock from the Local History Collection of Knowsley Borough Museum and Heritage Service.

The exhibition offers visitors the chance to marvel at the artistry and ingenuity of the clock and watch makers who plied their trade in the local area. As well as clocks and watches there will be displays of the tools of the trade.

Ingenious Timekeepers runs at Prescot Museum until November 26th 2007.

Admission to Prescot Museum and the exhibition is free. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-1pm and 2-5pm and Sundays 2-5pm.

2010 The Alt Project

The Alt Project aims to bring together the writing, artwork and memories of people who live, grow up and work along the path of the River Alt. Local poet and teacher Lisa Hannah has collected the reminiscences of residents, and captured the ever-changing spirit of the Alt in a collection of nine poems.

River Alt

The River Alt runs from Hag Plantation in Huyton through Croxteth Park, roughly following the M57, south of Kirkby and Maghull, before it empties into the Irish Sea, near the edge of the Mersey Estuary, where it marks the northern end of Crosby Beach.

This diverse exhibition charts the wildlife of the area, and the historic events the river has witnessed over thousands of years.

There are half term activities along with talks and presentations supporting the exhibition. Please look at our EVENTS page for further details and how to book your place.
