'Clocking Off' at Prescot Museum
4 October - Spring 2012
Since 1982, 34 Church Street has been the home of Prescot Museum. Over the years it has developed from the Museum of Clock and Watchmaking into a museum devoted to the heritage of Knowsley, housing the Local History Collection.
Knowsley Arts & Heritage Service will be moving from its current base to a new purpose-built space within Prescot Shopping Centre in Spring 2012, and so the final exhibition at Prescot Museum will be a celebration of the past life of the museum building and the many exhibitions and event held there over the years.
Displays will be jam-packed full of photographs of artefacts and documents alongside images of the museum, previous exhibitions, visitors and members of staff. The history of the building itself, from Georgian house to bank to museum will be uncovered, with original architectural features revealed.
Visitors are encouraged to participate in the exhibition, adding their doodles and memories to the displays as time goes by.
Leave a piece of yourself behind – using textiles, make a ‘Prescot Person’ doll representing either yourself or someone associated with the museum to add to our legion of miniature museum-lovers. Either help yourself to the materials or take part in one of our drop-in led sessions on Saturday 22, Thursday 27, or Saturday 29 October.
During the schoool half term it is 'The Big Draw' and you can get involved in activites reflecting Prescot's past and present. Come along any day between 22 - 29 October and paint your portrait or a local character on the 'wall of fame', doodle a futuristic town, scribble on a scroll and much more!
See our Visit page for opening times and where to find us.
