Prescot Museum is an Accredited Museum

Prescot Museum combines a contemporary space with a traditional museum. Following relocation from Georgian premises to an indoor shopping centre, the museum has retained and enhanced many of its most popular and historically significant displays, giving them a new lease of life and bringing them to a wider audience.

The museum reflects the historical significance of Prescot and the cultural identity of its community. The colourful displays of images and artefacts tell the story of Knowsley and its people – how they lived and where they worked.

Prescot Museum’s collection focuses on local people, businesses and industries such as watchmaking, pottery manufacture, cable making and coal mining. There are over 14,500 objects, a large percentage of which is ephemera and photographs. “Three dimensional” items include tools, costume, domestic items, coins, badges, trophies, architectural fragments, and militaria.

Our collections relate to the history of Knowsley, and whilst we welcome donations, please be aware that we are unable to accept everything that is offered to us; we will suggest alternative institutions for such items.
