Meet the Artists in the Park – Anthony Ratcliffe

This week, we’re “meeting” the four fabulous artists and writers who will be leading our online Art in the Park sessions in partnership with Knowsley Safari.

Anthony Ratcliffe is a printmaker and former lecturer who will be leading Revisioning the Rhino (starting on 2nd February at 10am). Over the four weekly sessions, inspired by 16th Century artist Albrecht Dürer’s famous Rhinoceros woodcut which he produced without having seen one, Anthony will explore the idea of a rhinocerous woodcut with contemporary associations.

We have hosted two solo exhibitions of Anthony Ratcliffe’s incredible woodcut prints, watercolours and drawings. Back in 2013, Huyton Gallery played host to Shoreline and Watershed, then in 2019 Northern Stone and Peat Smoke filled Kirkby Gallery. Anthony loves to explore and capture the physical geography of Britain and the wildlife that inhabits it; he even writes poetry to accompany his artwork.

He hosted a series of woodcut print workshops in Kirkby Gallery in 2019 that were extremely popular, so we are thrilled to have Anthony on board for Art in the Park so more people can have the benefit from home – have you booked your free place yet?…/art-in…/
