Following the huge success of the pilot project devised by Friends of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum and financed by Knowsley Better Together fund in 2018, FOKGPM secured funding from Awards for All to extend the project for a second round of writers.
Two groups of locals met with writer-in-residence Sue Comer, who led weekly sessions at Kirkby Gallery and The Watchfactory in Prescot, encouraging participants to explore creative writing through reading, discussion and workshop exercises. Like the group in the pilot From Pen to Paper project, they have published a book of their writings.
A true passion for creative writing has been unleashed in those that took part. Even after the official sessions came to an end, Sue and a number of the participants decided to carry on meeting informally as they had enjoyed their time together so much!
Now, a third round of the project is currently underway, funded by The Eleanor Rathbone Charitable Trust. From Pen to Paper is an incredible project which has allowed more people from Knowsley to find their “inner voice” and turn their ideas into prose.
A limited number of copies of From Pen to Paper and From Pen to Paper II are available to buy from Kirkby Gallery for just £4 each, and both books are available to loan from Knowsley Library Service.
