It’s been a whole year since Made on Merseyside opened in Kirkby Gallery – the time has passed so quickly and yet it seems so long ago, so we thought it would be the perfect time to remind everyone of what a brilliant exhibition it was, and how marvellous Merseyside is. As there are, and have been, so many important well-loved companies in the local area, we received some additional items on loan from visitors during the exhibition which we squeezed in. We started with one “Smash Martian” figure made from Ford car parts by workers in the late 70s and early 80s, and by the end, we had three from different people!
A vast range of businesses and industries were included: English Electric, Bird’s Eye, coal mining, Hornby Meccano, BICC, watchmaking, The Leather Satchel Company, Tinling’s, Huntley and Palmers, Blundell’s Files, and Kirkby Royal Ordnance Factory.
As well as sharing their story and loaning products and footage for the Made on Merseyside exhibition, Kirkby Tyres became our first Business Friend of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum, generously supporting our activities for local families.
