New Worlds

Do you remember Kirkby Gallery’s New Worlds exhibition from 2016? It’s our Culture Development and Events Officer’s favourite!

Tina says: “New Worlds in 2016 is by far one of my favourite exhibitions to date. Admittedly, there was a certain level of self indulgence in this exhibition as it included some of my favourite British artists (although, I think they are most people’s favourites too!): David Hockney, Patrick Caulfield, Frank Auerbach and The Boyle Family.”

“The Boyle Family was a particular treat, despite being the biggest and heaviest artwork we have ever displayed in the gallery! I have always been a big fan of this family-based arts practice. I have very fond memories of taking my younger sister to Tate Liverpool almost every Saturday in the 90’s and seeing a number of their works in the foyer – they were so imposing and detailed the overlooked, I loved their work then as I still do now.”

New Worlds featured some of the most significant works of the 60s and 70s by British artists, the first Select exhibition from the Arts Council Collection that Kirkby Gallery curated.
