Wednesday Art Challenge – Texture

For Gill’s Wednesday Art Challenge this week, explore and experiment using texture to define or create the image.

Many famous artists use different techniques and materials to create texture in their artworks, from aggressive mark-making with pencil and graphite to building up paint layers to suggest form and/or create shadows for definition. Such artists include Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, Antoni Tapies, Anselm Kiefer and even Willy Russell, who used many domestic materials such as kitchen roll and cling film, mixed with paint, to experiment with textural surfaces in his landscape paintings.

See what you have around the house to experiment with and don’t forget to share your results via adding to the comments section of our ‘Home is Where the Art is’ pinned post at the top of our Facebook page.
