School Visits to Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum

FREE SELF-LED VISITS TO KIRKBY GALLERY – bring your class along to enjoy our exhibitions! Morning or afternoon slots are available (9.30-11.30am or 1-3pm as a general rule), but these must be booked in advance. For each new exhibition, we create bespoke activities inspired by the items on display, with creative writing, art and analytical challenges linking to the curriculum wherever possible.

ENJOY A STAFF-LED TOUR OR TALK AS PART OF YOUR VISIT TO KIRKBY GALLERY. We will deliver your session (which will last up to 2 hours) at a cost of £50. We can provide a bespoke talk based on the current exhibition or displays, with a maximum total group size of 40 (including teaching staff).

Teacher First Events at Kirkby Gallery. Each time our exhibition changes, we host a Teacher First event – it’s a great opportunity for teaching staff to have a preview of the exhibition before it opens to the public.

We provide a “walk and talk” around the Gallery so you can familiarise yourself with the works on display and any themes you may wish to explore with your pupils. Depending on the exhibition, we have guest speakers including artists and curators.

You’ll also receive a Teacher Pack of the activities and resources on offer so you can plan ahead and even book your class visit before everyone else!

PLEASE NOTE, SELF-LED VISITS TO PRESCOT MUSEUM AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES TOURS ARE CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE AS WE ARE WORKING TO REFRESH THE DISPLAYS.

Prescot Museum Explorers Self-led Learning Pack

Prescot Museum is at the heart of Prescot town centre, and it tells the story of the local area through thousands of images, objects and film clips.

Discover Knowsley’s heritage and local industries including cable making, mining, printing, pottery, and clock and watchmaking. Social history displays relating to leisure activities, fashion, household objects and toys show another side to local life over the centuries.

Download the Prescot Museum Explorers Self-led Learning Pack to help guide your class around the displays and encourage them to find key pieces of information about objects in the collection. Clipboards are available on site for you to borrow.

The exhibition space is all on one level, and there is a ‘Changing Spaces’ facility on site.

Go behind-the-scenes at Prescot Museum! Find out how we look after the objects in our collection and go up to the Museum Store to see objects that are not on display. The class will get the opportunity to handle objects and learn how to best care for their own special belongings. Behind-the-scenes visits cost £50 and last approximately one and a half hours. During your visit, the class will be split into two groups, with one exploring the Museum displays while the other venture up into the Collections Store, then the groups swap over. Please note: the maximum group size for a behind-the-scenes visit to Prescot Museum is 30 children plus staff, or 20 adults due to the confined space in the Museum Store, and it can only be reached via three flights of stairs. An alternative session can be arranged where a small selection of items can be brought down to the Activity Room which is on the same level as the Museum.
